I heard a radio interview in which Brian Eno recalled his highly creative collaboration with David Bowie during Bowie's 'Berlin' period. You can imagine the buzz as two of rocks most creative geniuses bounced off each other in the studio. Such was their passion to explore, they began to 'raise the bar' for themselves in a way that would horrify the most ruthless, self-critical of creatives.
Apparently, after one session in which they accidently erased the day's work forcing them to re-record everything from scratch, they were much happier with the outcome. As a consequence, each day, Bowie started sneaking into the studio ahead of Eno and deleting the best bits from the day before. Causing them to do it all over again. But better.
Producer, Eno took up the challenge and started going in ahead of Bowie and erasing his choices of the best bits. Forcing themselves to go further and create something more satisfying. Imagine the risk that they were taking.
But then again, the likes of Bowie and Eno have never settled for 'safe' options. If you can't take risks, why bother? I was (and still am) in awe of that inspiring story. Which is just as well, because today I cocked up.
Over the last couple of months, I've been thoroughly enjoying writing a blog. The feedback I've had from friends and colleagues has been both constructive and gratifying. Today, as I was updating the design of my homepage, I unintentionally deleted the whole bloody lot!
So, this is the latest and only blog on my site. Shame really, I have covered a number of interesting topics and shared anecdotes that were, by all accounts, worth reading. Ah well.
